Who are Ashley Mills and Mark Mullett? 

Ashley Mills and Mark Mullett are the creators of Obé Fitness. They were business partners even before Obé’s launch. Both worked primarily in the boutique fitness industry in LA and NYC.

Things to Consider Before Buying Obé Fitness

1. You need the app and an internet connection.

To follow along with an Obé Fitness workout, you will need to have access to the app and a steady internet connection. You can access the platform on your phone, tablet, computer, or TV.

2. You need to make your own schedule. 

Since you do not have a one-on-one trainer, you are responsible for setting the schedule. Be sure to create a weekly workout schedule that will help you get to where you want to be.

If you’re interested in the live classes, pay special attention to when they start. You can see seven days at a time with the live schedule on the Obe site.

If no live classes work for you on a certain day, tune into an on-demand class instead!

3. You will have to rely on self-motivation.

While the classes themselves are certainly motivational, it is going to be up to you to actually show up and put the work in! 

There will be no one to check in on you or to make sure that you even finish a class, so keep the end goal in mind to keep you going.

Few people have the motivation to do the things they want to do every single day. Still, you can use this opportunity to develop a little more self-discipline.

4. Minimal nutrition guidance is available.

Whether you want to gain muscle or lose weight, a key factor in making that transformation is what you eat. Exercise certainly plays a role, but it is not the only thing that matters.

Obé Fitness provides a small collection of short videos covering various nutrition topics, but it is not enough to give you an idea of how you should eat.

1. Class Category 

CARDIO

The cardio category contains 3,564 classes. A few examples are Dance Cardio, Boxing, and Hyperspeed HIIT. They come in various time lengths. Some require equipment, while others don’t.

Cardio classes are great for helping you burn fat, increase stamina, and improve your heart and lung health.

STRENGTH TRAINING

The strength training category contains 5,124 classes. A few examples include sculpting, upper body strength, and pilates. 

They come in various time lengths, and almost all of the classes require equipment.

Strength training is essential for longevity and can boost your metabolism by leading to increased muscle mass.

YOGA

The yoga category contains 1,429 classes. A few examples are Obe Signature Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and Yoga Sculpt. 

They come in various lengths, and while a few don’t require equipment, almost all classes ask that you at least have a yoga mat and yoga blocks.

Yoga is amazing for improving flexibility and mobility while providing peace of mind.

ACTIVATE/ RECOVER

The activate/recover category contains 447 classes, and a few examples are Morning Breathwork + Meditation, Lower Back Stretch, and Midday Meditation. 

The average class lasts about ten minutes and minimal equipment is usually required.

This is an important category because these classes can be done on their own or performed before or after another class to minimize injury risk.

LEVEL UP CLUB

This category contains 45 classes, and a few examples are Strength + Pilates, Sculpt + Cardio Boxing, and Sculpt + Strength. 

These classes are on the longer side, and the required equipment varies.

If you are more advanced when it comes to exercise or you simply want a challenge, this is the category for you!

2. Class Types

Barre

Obé Fitness class types

The barre class type contains 399 classes. A few examples are Advanced Barre, Barre Core, and Blastoff Barre. These classes vary in length, and almost all of them require equipment of some kind.

Barre is great for building total-body strength and improving flexibility.

Bounce (Indoor Trampoline)

The bounce class type contains 154 classes and includes Bounce + Sculpt, Bounce Dance, and Bounce HIIT. These classes average half an hour in length, and they all require a trampoline.

These bounce classes are great for making exercising fun and bringing back good memories from your childhood!

Cardio Boxing

The cardio boxing class type contains 460 classes, and a few examples are Big Bang Boxing, Cardio Boxing + Yoga Sculpt, and Punch Party: Cardio Boxing. These classes vary in length, and while some require equipment, most actually do not.

Cardio boxing is amazing for getting your heart rate up and helping you burn fat while being distracted by the constant change of movement.

Dance

The dance class type contains 1,251 classes. A few examples are Dance Cardio, Cosmic Dance Cardio + Sculpt, and Bounce Dance. These classes vary in length and do not require equipment for the most part.

Dance classes help improve your cardiovascular health while you get to have fun and move your whole body.

Dance HIIT

The dance HIIT class type contains 487 classes. Classes include Hyperspeed Dance HIIT, Advanced Dance HIIT, and Turn It Up Dance HIIT. These classes tend to be 30 minutes or less and don’t require any equipment.

Dance HIIT still allows you to enjoy working out with the dance aspect while taking things up a notch with HIIT!

HIIT

The HIIT class type contains 928 classes. Try Hyperspeed HIIT, Strength + HIIT, or Advanced Power + HIIT. These classes greatly vary in length, and while some require equipment, most do not.

HIIT-style workouts help you burn fat, get your heart rate up, and rev up your metabolism for hours after the workout is complete. 

Pilates 

The pilates class type contains 628 classes. Choose from Pilates Core: Obliques, Lunar Pilates, and Advanced Pilates. The length of these classes varies, and many require different types of equipment.

Pilates works every muscle group in the body, but there is a special emphasis on core work that can benefit you with daily tasks.

Ride (Cycling)

The ride class type contains 136 classes, and a few examples are ride HIIT, Ride + Strength, and Ride + Yoga. 

The length of these classes varies, and nearly all of them require only your stationary bike.

Cycling improves balance, lower body strength, and stamina!

Power (Strength + Cardio)

The power class type contains 962 classes. Try Upper Body Power, Lower Body Power, and Advanced Power. The length of these classes varies, and they all require at least hand weights.

Combining strength and cardio maximizes the amount of fat you burn in a workout session.

Sculpt 

This type contains 2,035 classes, and a few examples are Advanced Sculpt, Postnatal Sculpt Core, and Cosmic Dance Cardio + Sculpt. The class lengths greatly vary, as do the equipment required.

The sculpt classes are great for helping you shape and tone your entire body while breaking a sweat!

Strength

The strength class type contains 1,197 classes. You may choose classes for upper body strength, lower body strength, and even Supersonic Strength. The class lengths vary and you’ll need those hand weights again.  

The strength classes are best for those who have access to heavier dumbbells. Using these will result in the building of muscle mass faster and more calories burned.

Meditation

The meditation class type contains 141 classes, and a few examples are morning breathwork + meditation, midday meditation, and bedtime breathwork. The classes average around ten minutes in length, and most of them do not require any equipment.

While taking care of your body is essential, looking after the mind is also vital. Meditation helps you slow things down and calm your thoughts.

Yoga Sculpt

There are 411 yoga sculpting classes, including Cardio Boxing + Yoga Sculpt, Lower Body Yoga Sculpt, and Yoga Sculpt Core: Obliques. Class length varies, and most classes require equipment.

If you love yoga but want to add a little intensity, yoga sculpt is for you!

Kids

With 54 classes just for kids, your little ones can enjoy Kids’ Dance, Kids’ Cardio Boxing, and Kids’ Strength. Most classes are ten minutes and you won’t need any equipment.

Just like adults, kids need to move around and expel some energy daily. Your kids will likely enjoy these classes since they last a reasonable amount of time and can be done with their body weight!

Endurance

The endurance class type contains 92 classes. Choose Advanced Strength + Endurance, Beginner Endurance, and Strength + Endurance with Mindful Meditation. Class length varies, and no equipment is required for most classes.

Endurance plays an essential role in many daily activities. Improve yours by taking these classes regularly!

Foam Roll

The foam roll class type contains 21 classes, and a few examples are runner’s full-body foam roll, post-workout foam roll, and upper-body foam roll. 

These classes last about ten minutes and only require a foam roller.

Recovery is an essential part of every workout routine, so follow along with these classes to truly experience the benefits of foam rolling.

Yoga

Choose from 912 yoga classes, including Weekend Warrior: Galactic Flow and Vinyasa yoga. These classes vary in length, and they all require at least a yoga mat and yoga blocks.

If you want to combine a workout and stretching, yoga is the way to go!

Restorative Yoga

The restorative yoga category contains 101 classes. Stretch the hips and hamstrings, cool down from tough workouts, and more. The length of each class varies, and they all require some form of yoga equipment.

Step

There are 39 step classes, and a few examples are Step Cardio, Advanced Power, and Advanced Strength. Class length varies, and they all require at least a step.

These engaging step classes will take building your lower body strength to the next level!

Seniors

Seniors can choose from 16 classes targeting strength and stretching. Classes last between ten and 16 minutes and they suggest a chair at the bare minimum.

It is very important that seniors stay active and preserve as much mobility as they can, and these classes can help make that happen.

Food + Nutrition

There are ten classes dedicated to food and nutrition, including Pride Bunch: DIY Toast Bar, Wine + Unwind: Wine Pairings, and In-Flight Nutrition Hacks. Class length varies, and most of them feature a special guest to share their knowledge.

Exercise isn’t the only factor in making physical changes; nutrition also plays a massive role in how you both look and feel.

Shop the Box

Not sure what type of workout you want to do? Shop the Box contains 110 classes, and they vary in length and equipment requirements because a little bit of everything exists here! 

Talks

Sixty-six classes combine different topics and activities, such as Mat Chat: Full Body Stretch, National Hispanic Heritage Month: Stretch + Share, and Glitter Beat: Makeup Tutorial. 

The style and topics of each class vary greatly, and you can get some insight into something new whether you are working out while learning or just sitting back and relaxing!

Beginner

Open Level

The open-level fitness library contains 9,370 classes. This category contains nearly every class that is available on the Obé Fitness app.

Advanced

The advanced fitness level contains 2,249 classes for barre, sculpting different areas of the body, and more. Class length and equipment requirements vary.

Prenatal

Expecting? Get the benefits of 217 prenatal classes, including a back stretch, core sculpting, and lower body sculpting. These classes can be done in 30 minutes or less and require various equipment.

Postnatal

5 Minutes

Tight on time? Choose from 150 classes that last around five minutes. Use alone or to optimize the effect of longer classes.

10 Minutes

Roughly 1,567 Obé Fitness classes last around ten minutes. These mostly consist of stretching and quick ab routines!

15 Minutes

Yes, just 15 can have an impact. Obé Fitness provides 155 classes that last around 15 minutes, so your daily movement can happen during a short break!

20 Minutes

There are 225 classes that last around 20 minutes. These classes are great if you are in a rush but still want to get a more effective workout in.

28 Minutes

Is Obé Fitness worth it?

While it certainly is an investment, Obé Fitness can definitely be worth it if you utilize the platform regularly.

For example, the live classes have an instructor take you through a class just like you would in a studio. The cost of one class at a studio may be $15. 

This means if you do just two live classes in one month, you are getting more than your money’s worth with an Obé Fitness monthly subscription. 

What equipment is needed?

Here’s a rundown of every piece of equipment you may need to enjoy the full range of Obé Fitness classes.

1. Yoga Mat

Many classes that have you perform exercises on the floor will suggest you use a yoga mat so you are on a softer surface. 

2. Dumbbells (1lbs, 3lbs, 5lbs, 8lbs, etc)

Depending on what fitness level the class is, the weight of a dumbbell recommended varies. Of course, the weight they suggest may not be right for you, but use their ideal weights as guidelines.

3. Resistance Bands

Resistance bands are easy to bring on the go with you if you are traveling and want to exercise because they are small and lightweight. Many classes require them for strength training.

4. Ankle Weights

Ankle weights can take any workout to the next level, but some classes highly recommend them to make the workouts more effective.

5. Yoga Blocks

Many classes, especially the yoga classes, recommend you have yoga blocks on hand so you can make the necessary adjustments to certain poses. 

6. Sliders

Sliders are a great tool for helping you work your core, and a lot of classes do ab exercises with sliders.

For the dance classes, the style varies depending on which instructor you take. Peter and Walter feel less aerobic-y than many of the others to me. Their sessions including choreography that builds on itself, so you have a routine by the end of the 28 mins.

Most often, I do Power classes with Kat E. For the first time in my life, I now have visible muscle definition in my arms. I also appreciate Kat’s focus on form, and that her classes build upon themselves.
