Within my holistic health practice, I have clients looking to optimize their energy and workout performance, so I’m asked about pre-workouts pretty often.

All in all, I’ve gained quite a bit of experience in researching pre-workouts and their ingredients and gauging their overall effectiveness.

So, keep reading my Pride Pre Workout review to see how effective it really is.

About EHP Labs

EHP Labs is a sports supplement brand founded in 2012. EHP’s goal is to research and formulate high-quality, effective supplements that stand atop the industry.

They currently offer over 20 different supplements, including fat burners, pre-workouts, and muscle recovery supplements, to name a few.

What is Pride Pre Workout?

EHPlabs pride pre workout

We all know that every pride of lions has a king.

And Pride Pre Workout is alleged to be the “king” of all pre-workouts.

It’s not just about ingredient quality and dosage. It features Pentaffeine, a 5-stage energy delivery system advertised to give you a burst in energy without the crash.

This EHP Labs pre workout also is made to enhance pumps, focus, and even recovery through its diverse ingredient profile.

Things to Consider Before Buying Pride Pre Workout

EHP labs pride review

Before you buy Pride Pre Workout, it’s important to know exactly what it claims to do.

Based on their website, Pride is for anyone looking to improve their overall workout performance.

High Amount of Stimulants

However, it contains a number of stimulants, so this isn’t a good option for anyone looking for a stim-free pre-workout.

Additionally, Pride may not be suitable for people with heart conditions or high blood pressure.

Similarly, anyone who experiences tendencies towards anxiety and insomnia may not want to use Pride.

Product Strength

Also, Pride is generally a pretty strong pre workout. But this is mainly if you take two scoops.

Since you have the option to take one or two scoops, you are more likely to get your desired strength.

This also likely makes it a good pre workout option for people who are just starting out. This is mainly because they can start with a low dosage (one scoop) and assess their tolerance.

PRICE

Another consideration is the relatively high price tag on Pride. The normal price is $44.95. And this gives you only 20 servings if you take the recommended two scoops.

So, it costs over two dollars per serving, which is pretty expensive for a preworkout.

With that being said, you also have the option to take just one scoop.

And if you find that that dosage is enough for you, you’ll obviously pay a lot less per serving.

Is Pride Pre-Workout legal?

Pride doesn’t contain any ingredients on the WADA-banned substance list or any other illegal ingredients. So, it should be legal for anyone in competitive/regulated organizations.

Pride Pre Workout Features

EHP Labs wants this pre-workout to stand out in a few ways. Here are some of the main features:

Unique Ingredient Blend

Pride has a very diverse ingredient blend that may help to increase energy, improve focus, enhance pumps, and even improve recovery.

Specifically, Pride contains some ingredients that aren’t often seen in other pre workouts. This includes a trademarked form of phosphatidylserine called SerinAid.

This and other rarely-seen ingredients can be particularly exciting for people who’ve used the same old pre-workout formulas over and over.

Essential Amino Acids

Without enough fuel, the muscles can break down quicker and you may get fatigued sooner.

But there are 5g of essential amino acids (EAAs) in the form of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) in Pride.

These are advertised to delay fatigue and improve muscle recovery, so you can be at your strongest.

Pentaffeine 5 Stage Caffeine Release

pride pre workout review

Another unique aspect of this EHP Labs preworkout is the 5-state caffeine release in the form of Pentaffeine.

The five ingredients in Pentaffeine are advertised to provide a quick boost in energy while also giving you long-term energy.

Plus, it’s designed to do all this without any jitters or crashes.

As a result, it might be more effective and longer-lasting than the traditional caffeine you find in most pre-workouts or even your regular coffee.

Pump Ingredients

Most people going to the gym want to get that coveted pump. Not only does it look good, but it can also increase performance.

Pride Pre-Workout has a few ingredients that may deliver a pump sensation. These include citrulline, Nitrosigine, and betaine.

Ingredients for Focus

There’s no question that a lack of focus and mental performance can hinder your performance in the gym.

But Pride is designed to target this with ingredients to upgrade focus and cognition. It includes tyrosine, taurine, and theobromine to name a few.

Does Pride Pre-Workout really work?

EHP Labs Pride Pre Workout should be a pretty solid supplement overall for most people.

Individual results may vary, but Pride should be effective for gym-goers who are involved in high-intensity exercise, especially weightlifting and bodybuilding.

How effective is Pride Pre-Workout?

Pride has a solid combination of effective ingredients at the right dosages (for the most part).

It has a high amount of caffeine and other stimulants.

Plus, it has other well-researched and effective ingredients. The formula contains citrulline, betaine, green coffee extract, and amino acids, among others.

In terms of effectiveness, I’d expect a moderate increase in energy along with mild to moderate improvements in focus, pumps, and strength.

Of course, none of these results are guaranteed. But given the ingredients and their dosages, these are things that may potentially occur.

Pride Pre Workout Ingredients

pride pre workout ingredients

Alright, let’s dive a little deeper into the ingredients and their dosages to see their potential effectiveness.

Skin Splitting OFF The Bone PUMPS

The first group of ingredients is listed under their Skin Splitting OFF The Bone PUMPS, which contains L-citrulline, Nitrosigine, and betaine anhydrous.

(All dosages are based on the serving size of two scoops).

L-Citrulline (5,000mg)

Citrulline is an amino acid that can increase arginine and nitric oxide levels, which relaxes the blood vessels and improves blood flow. In turn, the muscles get more blood and oxygen. This may lead to improvements in performance and recovery.

Effective dosage according to Examine: 6,000 to 8,000mg of citrulline malate, which is about 3,000 to 5,000mg of citrulline.

Nitrosigine™ (Inositol-Stabilized Arginine Silicate) (1,500mg)

Nitrosigine is a trademarked form of inositol-stabilized arginine silicate. This simply means that it’s an arginine compound.

Research shows that Nitrosigine can elevate plasma arginine levels. This can lead to improved blood flow and better exercise performance and recovery.

Effective dosage according to Current Developments in Nutrition journal: 1,500mg

Betaine Anhydrous (1,000mg)

Betaine anhydrous is a form of betaine. It’s a compound with a number of potential ergogenic effects (i.e. performance-enhancing effects). It can increase creatine synthesis and muscle protein synthesis.

Additionally, it helps the body to retain water, which can lead to a fuller sensation in the muscles.

However, the overall research on exercise performance is mixed and inconclusive, but it does aid body composition.

Effective dosage according to Examine: 2.5g

Performance EAA Blend (5,000mg)

The next blend in Pride is the Performance EAA Blend, which contains the BCAAs (leucine, isoleucine, valine) as well as phenylalanine, threonine, lysine, histidine, methionine, and tryptophan.

iBCAA Leucine (2,000mg)

The BCAAs are critically involved in muscle protein synthesis and thus may aid recovery. Among these, leucine appears to be the most potent.

Leucine can increase muscle protein synthesis, particularly when not enough protein is consumed. And it may aid muscle recovery, although it’s not entirely conclusive.

Effective dosage according to Examine: 2,000 to 5,000mg

iBCAA Isoleucine (1,000mg)

Among the three BCAAs, isoleucine is the second-best for increasing muscle protein synthesis.

It stands out as it’s the most effective BCAA for increasing glucose uptake into the muscles. This could aid exercise performance by enhancing energy levels.

Effective dosage based on data analysis: 48 to 72mg/kg (for a 150lb person, 3.3-4.9g)

iBCAA Valine (1,000mg)

Valine is the least potent BCAA for enhancing muscle protein synthesis. Currently, there isn’t enough research on valine specifically to directly say how effective it is.

Effective Dosage: N/A

L-Phenylalanine (350mg)

Phenylalanine is an EAA that’s also a precursor to neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin.

Some research shows that it can stimulate fat-burning when paired with exercise.

Effective dosage according to the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition: 3g

L-Threonine (250mg)

Threonine is important for optimal central nervous system functioning. It aids nerve signals that are important for muscular contractions.

Effective Dosage: N/A

L-Lysine HCl (200mg)

Lysine (also lysine) is an amino acid that can increase arginine levels, which improves blood flow. This can even result in elevated growth hormone, a hormone important for muscle growth and recovery.

Effective dosage according to Current Medical Research and Opinion journal: 1,200mg

L-Histidine (100mg)

Histidine is present in high concentrations in the muscle and is thought to help increase muscle carnosine stores.

However, research shows it isn’t beneficial for enhancing muscle performance.

Effective Dosage: N/A

L-Methionine (50mg)

Methionine is another important amino acid.

Methionine concentrations decrease after intense exercise, but it’s unclear if supplementing additional methionine leads to any improvements.

Effective Dosage: N/A

L-Tryptophan (50mg)

Tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin, a neurotransmitter important for mood and well-being. Your tryptophan levels can decrease with intense exercise.

However, supplementing with tryptophan may reduce perceptions of fatigue and improve performance.

Effective dosage according to WebMD: 60mg

Pentaffeine™ 5-Stage Energy Release (550mg)

One of the main features in Pride is the Pentaffeine, which is a trademarked 5-stage energy release blend.

It consists of caffeine anhydrous, Infinergy™, green coffee extract, Innova Tea™, yerba mate, and natural bitter orange extract.

Caffeine Anhydrous (200mg)

Caffeine is a natural CNS stimulant, which can increase energy levels, alertness, and motivation.

Supplementing with an effective dose of caffeine can lead to improved strength, endurance, and power. It seems particularly beneficial for longer-duration exercise.

Effective dosage according to independent analysts: Around 200 to 500mg for most

Infinergy™ (Di-Caffeine Malate) (100mg)

Infinergy™ is a trademarked form of di-caffeine malate, which itself is a combination of caffeine and malic acid.

It is designed to increase energy levels and provide long-lasting energy, while also increasing focus. But no research has been done on it.

Effective Dosage: N/A

Green Coffee Extract (50mg)

Green coffee extract is an extract from raw coffee beans. It’s yet another source of caffeine.

Green coffee extract is most often used as a weight loss supplement due to its stimulatory effects, with research indicating anti-obesity effects.

The chlorogenic acid in it may also offer metabolic-enhancing effects.

Effective dosage according to data analysis: 240 to 3,000mg, depending on chlorogenic acid percentage and desired dosage.

Essentially. You want anywhere from 120 to 300mg of chlorogenic acid. So, the amount of green coffee needed depends on the exact percentage and desired dosage (e.g. 10, 25, or 50%).

Innova Tea™ (Green Tea Extract (Caffeine)) (50mg)

Yet another source of caffeine is Innova Tea™, a trademarked form of green tea extract.

Green tea extract is a natural source of caffeine and polyphenols, including various catechins (e.g. EGCG).

It may help to increase thermogenesis and fat loss while also improving energy and focus.

Effective dosage based on analysis: 400 to 500 mg

Yerba Mate (50mg)

Yerba mate is a plant with a few health properties. It has been shown to increase fat utilization during exercise. And it may also increase exercise performance due to its stimulatory effects.

Estimated effective dosage: 1,000 to 1,500mg

Natural Bitter Orange Extract (30%) (100mg)

The last ingredient in this blend is a natural bitter orange extract (30%). Bitter orange is most known for the phytochemical p-synephrine found in it, which has stimulatory effects.

Bitter orange doesn’t appear to significantly benefit exercise performance. But it can help to increase fat burning during exercise.

Effective dosage according to Examine: 100mg (yields 30mg synephrine)

Super Nootropic Focus Blend (1,650mg)

pride supplement focus ingredients

The final blend in Pride-Pre Workout is the Super Nootropic Focus Blend, which has tyrosine, taurine, SerinAid™ (Phosphatidylserine 20%), and theobromine (99%).

Tyrosine (1,000mg)

Tyrosine is an amino acid and precursor to dopamine and norepinephrine. It has the potential to mitigate performance decreases that occur during strenuous or stressful circumstances.

It has the most evidence for its ability to enhance cognitive performance when under stress.

Effective dosage according to independent analysis: 500 to 2,000mg

Taurine (500mg)

Taurine is an amino acid involved in energy metabolism, endurance, and even brain function. Plus, it offers anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Research shows it may be able to enhance aerobic endurance as well as strength and power. Plus, it can decrease some markers of inflammation.

Effective dosage according to Examine: 1 to 6g

SerinAid™ (Phosphatidylserine 20%) (100mg)

SerinAid™ is a trademarked form of phosphatidylserine.

Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid and an important part of cell membranes. It is involved in brain function and cognitive performance and may also help to lower cortisol ( a stress hormone)

Some research shows that phosphatidylserine can decrease cortisol in response to intense exercise.  This may also help to reduce fatigue and increase performance.

And specific research on SerinAid shows it may help improve cognitive function before exercise.

Estimated effective dosage: 300 to 550 mg

Theobromine (50mg)

Theobromine is a milder, longer-lasting stimulant compared to caffeine. It is found in chocolate and other plant foods.

Research is very limited, with some evidence showing that theobromine can enhance endurance performance similar to caffeine.

Effective dosage according to Drug Testing Analysis Journal: 300 to 600 mg

How to Use Pride Pre-Workout

pride pre-workout reviews for better experience

In general, Pride Pre-Workout is supposed to be taken before your workout, preferably in the morning or afternoon so it does not disrupt your sleep.

Pride Supplement Form

Pride comes in powder form. There’s a scoop included in the container, so you know exactly what dosage you’re getting.

Recommended Dosage

For maximum effects, EHP Labs recommends that you take two scoops mixed into 12oz of water 20 to 30 minutes before your workout.

However, they also say that one scoop can also be effective. In this case, mix it with just 6oz of water.

Stacking a Pump Pre-Workout (Stim-Free)

For some people, stacking Pride with a pump pre workout may be a nice option to enhance results.

What is a pump pre-workout?

Pump pre-workouts are those that contain pump-enhancing ingredients. And they don’t contain any stimulants.

As a result, their main goal is to enhance blood flow and muscle pumps.

Why do people use this as a stack?

Combining Pride with a pump pre-workout may be an effective combination because it provides further muscle pump-enhancing ingredients while still having the benefits of Pride.

You get the stimulants, nootropics, and pump ingredients in Pride plus additional pump ingredients from a pump preworkout.

And this can be a nice combination for people who are really interested in maximizing muscle pumps.
