About Gorilla Mind
Gorilla Mind is a company located in Ohio that offers a wide range of supplements. One of their leading supplements is Gorilla Mode, but they carry pre-workouts, intra-workouts (to consume during your training), or post-workouts.
On top of that, they have recovery supplements such as protein powders, cortisol blockers, and sleep aids.
The company started in 2016 when Derek founded his company “More Plates More Dates.” It was a platform to educate people about bodybuilding, supplements, dating, nutrition, and workouts.
At the same time, Derek was working with a supplement company using his wide range of knowledge on sports nutrition. Thanks to his experience, he was very successful in creating supplement formulas.
In 2017, when his online platform was booming, he realized the potential he had for developing a supplement company. Thus, the creation of “Gorilla Mind.”
What is Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout?
Gorilla Mode is a Pre-workout intended to increase your nitric oxide levels and intramuscular hydration (hydration levels inside your muscles). It’s also used to increase energy and focus, all with the intended goal of boosting your performance levels.
It contains ingredients such as L-Citrulline, creatine monohydrate, GlycerPump, malic acids, and other ingredients which we’ll discuss later in this article.
Is Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout FDA-approved?
The FDA doesn’t approve any pre-workout since it is out of its jurisdiction. With that said, Gorilla Mode is not FDA-approved.
However, this doesn’t mean you can’t take it. Most of the ingredients in its formula have scientific research backing up their claims, making it a safe choice.
However, while it has high-quality ingredients with research, I always advise consulting with your primary healthcare provider to ensure you won’t have any trouble consuming this product.
Things to Consider Before Buying Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout
Before you buy this product, there are a few things you need to consider.
First, as mentioned, check with your doctor if you are fit to have this supplement. If you have a family history of heart disease or are taking any medication, ensure it won’t put your health at risk.
The other thing to consider before buying the supplement is if you really need it.
If you lack energy or want to improve your performance and have burned out all the other strategies (such as changing your nutrition habits), you can consider supplementing.
I always recommend my clients to try the natural way to boost their performance and energy levels.
Once they have made the necessary modifications, we can consider adding a supplement.
Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout Features
You could benefit from incorporating Gorilla Mode Pre-workout into your diet for several reasons. Here’s a list of notable features.
Easy Mixing
I don’t know about you, but I hate when I’m mixing a supplement and it becomes all clumpy.
There are several ways to avoid clumps, like changing the temperature of the water, mixing it with a milk frother, or mixing it in a shaker.
Let’s be honest, this sounds like a lot of work for a supplement.
One of the things I like about this supplement is that it is easy to mix. You add one or two scoops in water, and you don’t have to worry about it becoming clumpy.
High Dose of Stimulants
One of the troubles with pre-workout is that sometimes they don’t contain the recommended dosage for certain ingredients.
While some ingredients in Gorilla Mode are below the recommended dosage, you get a good amount of most ingredients.
Wide Range of Flavors
For those of you that get bored easily, one of the benefits of this supplement is that it comes in different flavors.
It also has several delicious flavors like mango-peach and mojo mojito (but more on the flavors later in the article).
Excellent Supplier of Pre-Workout Ingredients
Most of the ingredients seen in Gorilla Mode have scientific evidence backing up their claims. That’s why you may enjoy some health benefits.
However, there are a couple of ingredients that don’t have a lot of scientific evidence.
Availability
Finally, one of the best benefits of this supplement is that you can find it in almost any store. You can purchase it directly from their website, through Amazon, or from most of the supplement stores.
Nothing’s more troublesome than finding an awesome supplement but having difficulty finding it.
Does Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout really work?
Yes, it contains several well-researched ingredients. These ingredients may help you increase your focus, performance, and energy levels.
Let’s go more in-depth about those ingredients.
Gorilla Mode Ingredients
Gorilla Mode contains twelve ingredients. Here’s a complete breakdown of what they are, how they benefit you, and the dosage.
L-Citrulline
Dosage (1 scoop): 4,500 mg
Citrulline is a non-essential amino acid, meaning your body can produce small amounts. You can obtain citrulline from natural sources like watermelon.
So, why is this amino acid the main ingredient in Gorilla Mode?
Citrulline helps vasodilate your blood vessels. In other words, it helps increase the size of your blood vessels to have a greater blood flow.
When you consume citrulline, your body converts it to arginine, which gets turned into nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is responsible for increasing your blood vessels’ size.
In a study, cyclists who supplemented with citrulline had a 12% reduction in time to exhaustion compared to those in the placebo group.
In other words, those that took citrulline had better performance.
Besides increasing your blood flow, which helps deliver more oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, it helps increase growth hormone (GH) after your workout.
The increase in growth hormone can have several benefits, like more efficient muscle building.
The dosage depends on your desired function (weight training, oxygen increase, or increased performance). Still, research shows that you can take three to six grams of citrulline daily, which means Gorilla Mode is within the recommended range.
Creatine Monohydrate
Dosage (1 scoop): 2,500 mg
Creatine monohydrate is one of the most studied supplements
Creatine works by increasing your phosphocreatine supplies, the energy you use in fast-acting actions like weight lifting or sprints.
In a study, those who took creatine had 14% greater weight performance than a placebo group.
Additionally, creatine works by retaining water inside your muscles. This helps increase that desired pump, which ultimately helps with muscle gain.
On a side note, research shows that creatine can affect not only your performance but also your cognitive function. It can improve qualities such as your memory.
The recommended dosage for creatine is between three to five grams per day. This means that Gorilla Mode is below the recommended dosage.
GlycerPump
Dosage (1 scoop): 1,500 mg
GlycerPump is the active form of glycerol, the backbone of triglycerides. Research shows that combining citrulline and creatine monohydrate can help retain water inside your muscles, leading to better muscle hydration.
Increasing your muscle hydration can help increase your performance, especially during aerobic exercises like HIIT (high-intensity interval training) and circuit training.
Research shows that you should consume no more than five grams of glycerol per kilogram of bodyweight.
Malic Acid
Dosage (1 scoop): 1,500 mg
Malic acid is one supplement often combined with creatine. The reason for this pairing is that malic acid can increase creatine absorption.
Also, research shows that it can decrease muscle fatigue and improve recovery.
Currently, there is no recommended dosage for malic acid, but there is for citrulline malate, which is a blend of citrulline and malic acid. The recommended dosage is 6,000 to 8,000 mg.
Betaine Anhydrous
Dosage (1 scoop): 1,250 mg
Betaine anhydrous can increase power and improve performance. In a study, those who took betaine had improved performance over those who took the placebo.
The recommendation for betaine is 1.5 to three grams. With that said, Gorilla Mode is below the recommended dosage.
L-Tyrosine
Dosage (1 scoop): 750 mg
L-Tyrosine is an amino acid that gets converted into dopamine, norepinephrine, thyroid hormones, and melanin.
One of its main functions is to help reduce stress in your body. You can have better post-training recovery by helping reduce stress in your body.
The recommended dosage is 500 to 2,000 mg of tyrosine per day, with Gorilla Mode being in this recommended range.
Agmatine Sulfate
Dosage (1 scoop): 500 mg
Agmatine sulfate comes from the amino acid L-arginine. It impacts your mood, with studies showing it can reduce depressive symptoms.
Also, research shows that it can work with nitric oxide by relaxing blood vessels, helping them get wider (which, as we previously saw, can increase blood flow).
The average recommendation is 1,300 to 6,400 mg of agmatine sulfate daily. In this case, Gorilla Mode is below the recommended dosage.
Kanna
Dosage (1 scoop): 250 mg
Kanna is a common succulent found in South Africa. Research suggests it can relieve anxiety, reduce pain, reduce stress, and help fight symptoms of depression.
Currently, there is little research when it comes to the dosage involving this plant.
Caffeine Anhydrous
Dosage (1 scoop): 175 mg
Caffeine anhydrous is caffeine concentrated (anhydrous means without water). Caffeine is a stimulant with a lot of research regarding improving your endurance and reducing fatigue.
A study showed that people who chewed on caffeinated gum reduced their fatigue levels by 5%.
This means that if you are less tired to go to the gym, you are more likely to give it your all and have your best performance.
The recommended dosage is four to six mg of caffeine per kilogram of body weight. The amount you get from Gorilla Mode is the same as having almost two cups of coffee.
N-Phenethyl Dimethylamine Citrate
Dosage (1 scoop): 175 mg
There’s not a lot of research on this ingredient. While there might be some cognitive improvements, there’s still little to no evidence to support that claim.
BioPerine
Dosage (1 scoop): 5 mg
Bioperine is an extract from black pepper. One of the reasons people often include this ingredient is because it can increase the absorption of other ingredients.
According to independent supplement research analysts, you can take up to 20 mg of black pepper extract per day.
Huperzine A
Dosage (1 scoop): 200 mcg
Huperzine-A is a supplement you get from different herbs. It inhibits the breakdown of acetylcholine, which has a role in muscle contraction. Also, it can improve cognitive function.
The recommended dosages are between 50 to 200 mcg, with Gorilla Mode within its range.
Available Flavors
One of the benefits of Gorilla Mode is that it comes in a wide range of flavors.
- Mango Peach
- Jungle Juice (coconut, pineapple, and mango)
- Firefly Lemonade (sweet lemonade)
- Volcano Burst (orange, pineapple, and mango)
- Tiger’s Blood (coconut, watermelon, and strawberry)

- Summer flavor variety pack: Firefly Lemonade, Bomsible, and Mojo Mojito.

How to Use Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout
The best time to include Gorilla Mode Pre-workout is before your training. You can include it 10-30 minutes before a workout.
The label recommends consuming one to two scoops of the supplement mixed in 14 ounces of water. You can modify the water content. If you want it sweeter, you can decrease the water amount or add more water if you find it too sweet.
While the recommendation is one to two scoops, they advise consuming half a scoop first to see how you react. If there is no trouble with the dosage, you can increase it by half a scoop until you reach the desired amount (no more than two scoops).
In most cases, one scoop is enough to give you an energy boost and improve your performance levels.
Stacking a Pump Pre-Workout (Stim Free)
What is a pump pre-workout?
A stim-free (stimulant-free) pump pre-workout improves the blood flow to your muscles, creating that desired “pump.”
There are several ways to increase that “pump.” You can increase the levels of nitric oxide, which promotes a greater blood flow, or you can increase the hydration of your muscles.
Several ingredients here increase your nitric oxide levels, which, as we previously saw, widens your blood vessels to allow more blood to go into your muscles.
The most common ones used in supplements are L-citrulline, L-arginine, and betaine.
On the other hand, if you want to increase your muscle hydration, you can include creatine or glycerol, which draws water to your muscles, creating that pump.
Why do people use this as a stack?
Combining different supplements can promote more desired results in pump levels.
As we saw, several mechanisms can lead to that pump. One can be by increasing your nitric oxide levels, or the other by increasing your muscle hydration.
By combining different supplements in one (stacking), you can get the best out of every supplement to get the best pump results, which leads to better performance and muscle gain.
Real Customer Gorilla Mode Pre-Workout Reviews
According to their website, they have over 1,500 reviews with an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars, making it a highly rated supplement.
Here are some reviews I found while doing some research on the topic.
“All the great benefits of pre-workout without the intense sweating and tingling feeling you get with off the shelf crap powder. Non-proprietary blend so you know everything that is in it. Not an insane amount of caffeine to disrupt your sleep schedule, since caffeine has a half life of about 6 hours anyway.
Here is my dosage review.
I’m 6ft, 200 lbs in pretty decent shape.
1 Scoop- great workout; tons of energy and an amazing pump due to the ingredients
1.5 Scoops- Insane workout; want to crush weights, even when I’m tired I keep going
2 Scoops- Florida man mode; makes you want to chew concrete and destroy things in your local vicinity.
2.5 Scoops- You don’t want to know.
TL;DR-
Stick to 1 scoop + maybe a little thermogenic if you want to sweat or tingle.”
Alex – Amazon Review
“Clean product with no pre-workout crash from stims. The mental clarity is definitely my favorite aspect, since 6am workouts tend to lack it. Followed by the stims. Mileage will vary, but definitely worth the money.”
N. Albert – Amazon Review
“I’m a USPA powerlifter so I train extremely heavy and do lots of volume. This product claims ‘massive pumps, laser focus, energy, power’ but unfortunately I didn’t experience any increase with these alleged benefits. I have tried several pre workouts… this one is below average…[this] product simply does not suit my needs. I do not feel any increase in the stated benefits. I bought 2 tubs of this stuff. I won’t buy a third.”
Cristina – Amazon review
Many Gorilla Mode reviews include both positive and negative feedback, which seems authentic.
Overall, the responses are good. However, remember that everybody reacts differently to each ingredient.
While some people can have that desired focus and energy levels, for some others, it might not have an impact.
