You’ve reached my Diet-To-Go review.

We’re all very busy these days, and that leaves less time to prepare meals. Many of us might end up relying on fast food and takeout for daily meals. It feels cheaper and easier than shopping for healthy ingredients and preparing wholesome food ourselves.

However, an increase in junk food also leads to weight gain and an increased risk of chronic illness. A lot of these conditions are not cheap to treat or easy to manage.

As a Registered Dietitian and weight loss coach, eating well with less effort is a struggle most people face. Unless you find a replacement for that takeout, reaching your goals is going to be harder to achieve.

However, Diet-to-Go might just be the solution you need.

It provides healthy cooked meals to help you reach your health goals – without spending tons of time at the grocery store or in the kitchen.

The catch is, you’re going to have to spend a significant amount of money to get the service. So, it’s up to you to determine if the benefits outweigh the price.

In my opinion, if you don’t have the time to meal prep or create your own home-cooked meals, it can be worth it.

As I always tell my clients, it’s an investment. What you are spending now won’t be as much as you would pay in hospital bills or medication.

So, without further ado, let’s start this Diet to Go review to examine its features, pros, cons, price, and customer reviews.

Things to Consider Before Using Diet-to-Go

Diet-to-Go meal delivery seems like an excellent option. However, there are some things you need to know before purchasing the service.

Where You Live

First, you need to consider your address. Diet-to-Go delivers to all states in the contiguous US, but there are different delivery systems.

If you live close to a Diet-to-Go kitchen, you can get freshly cooked meals delivered to your doorstep. If you don’t have a kitchen nearby, you can still get food delivered, but they are going to come frozen, and you get the delivery once a week.

Nutrition Goals

diet to go considerations

Another thing to consider is your nutrition goals. There are different packages for you to choose from. You can get a balanced meal plan, or if you want a low-carb option, you might choose the keto-carb30.

No matter the eating style of your choice, you can choose based on factors like caloric necessities and macro considerations.

There are no kosher meals or vegan options.

Meals Per Day

There are two options you can choose from. You can either opt for two meals per day (lunch and dinner) or three meals per day  (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

So, before you order, make sure you analyze what your necessities are regarding the frequency of your meals (five or seven days) and how many meals per day.

Cost

Finally, Diet-to-Go might be cheaper than eating at some restaurants, but it is still a pricey service.

Depending on the plan, the cheapest one starts at $138.99 per week. This means you can end up paying around $555 per month.

While this seems expensive, keep in mind that you are not purchasing other ingredients since everything is provided. You won’t need to spend time grocery shopping or cooking meals.

How does Diet-to-Go work?

diet to go plan

To make the first purchase, you need to head over to the Diet-to-Go website and start an order. Here, they are going to ask you what type of meals you want (Mediterranean, balanced, keto, etc.), how many days a week, and how many meals.

When you set up your preferences, it is going to ask you for your contact information.

Then, you can make any adjustments to your meals. You can swap ingredients or meals based on your preferences.

Once you are happy with your meals, you can place the order.

The food is then cooked and delivered. If you get your orders frozen, you need to defrost them 24 hours before consuming them, and it takes roughly two to three minutes to heat.

Diet-to-Go Menus and Meal Plans Types

One of my favorite things about the service is the Diet-to-Go meal plans. They fit most dietary needs with five different meal plans for you to choose from.

Let’s analyze each option so you can determine which is the one that fits your style.

Balance Menu

The Balance Menu is the best option for those who want to lose weight. It offers a mouth-watering menu approved by dietitians to help you reach a caloric deficit (eating fewer calories than the body needs).

The balanced menu can be adapted to your preferences. For example, you can ask for a no-seafood option or vegetarian.

Additionally, you can choose to follow the women’s plan, which consists of 1,200 calories, or the men’s option, which is a 1,600-calorie meal plan.

With that said, it raises some concerns about the calorie intake of both options. Consuming 1,200 for a woman and 1,600 for a man can be considered a low-calorie diet, especially for those who are active.

So, before purchasing, make sure you calculate your daily calories to determine if this is a good approach or if you need to make sure adjustments.

Balance-Diabetes Menu

The Balance Diabetes menu offers a controlled amount of carbs. They follow the dietary guidelines of the American Diabetes Association to create meals that are going to nurture you without affecting blood glucose levels.

Besides being controlled in carbs, they are also low in cholesterol and sodium to promote heart health.

Keto-Carb30 Menu

The Keto-Carb 30 is a keto-friendly approach that promotes a low-carb, moderate-protein, and high-fat diet.

You eat roughly 30 grams of net carbs per day, which is enough to keep your body in ketosis and promote weight loss.

Vegetarian Menu

The vegetarian menu is part of the balanced diet family. It helps promote weight loss by restricting calories.

Here, you get a menu low in carbs, fats, cholesterol, and sodium. There are no meat products. The protein sources include eggs, dairy, legumes, and soy.

Mediterranean Menu

Finally, the last option is the Mediterranean menu. It is a menu rich in legumes, vegetables, fruits, nuts, whole grains, fish, and lean meats. All promote weight loss and reduce the risk of chronic illnesses like heart disease and diabetes.

Diet-to-Go Meal Plans

balanced menu

You might be wondering what a Diet-to-Go meal plan looks like. On their website, you can check their meal plans. They have a five-week rotation system, so you won’t be eating the same thing every day.

You can check the options in advance, as they tell you which week they are following.

In this part of the Diet-to-Go review, we’ll go over one week’s example for a five-day meal plan for each of the menu options. Keep in mind that if you choose two meals per day, you only get lunch and dinner.

Remember, you can also make substitutions for every meal.

Diet-to-Go Features and Benefits

Moving on in this Diet-to-Go review, we are going to talk about those features and benefits that make this service stand out over the rest.

Let’s take a look.

The best chefs in the business.

Most people believe that eating healthy is boring. And, let’s be honest, many healthy meals are bland and tasteless. As a result, people often avoid these options since nobody wants to spend money on food they need to make an effort to eat.

But, at Diet-to-Go, you get the best chefs in the business preparing high-quality meals according to your dietary needs.

Fresh, low-calorie meals.

Sometimes you find the perfect meal that fits your lifestyle. It is low in calories, and it has just the right macros. But, it comes from frozen food, which can be less than ideal.

While frozen food is not always bad, after a long day at work, you might want a fresh, warm, homemade meal.

Diet-to-Go can deliver freshly-made food to those near one of their kitchens. The fresh, low-calorie meals are delivered right to your doorstep.

Caters to your dietary choices.

Some delivery systems only have one type of menu. So, if you’re following a low-carb diet or need to control carbs because you have diabetes, it might be off the table.

As we previously saw in the article, there are five different diets at Diet-to-Go. From a low-carb diet to a vegetarian approach, there is almost something for everyone.

You can personalize your meals.

One of the biggest concerns with meal delivery systems is what happens if you don’t like the option available. In the end, you are paying for a service you might not enjoy.

With Diet-to-Go, you can choose the exact meals you want and avoid foods you simply don’t like.

Enjoy automatic weekly ordering.

diet to go benefits

If you are purchasing this service, you probably lead a busy life. This means you might not have the mentality to keep track of when it’s time to order again.

Diet-to-Go offers a subscription service that you can cancel at any time that will automatically renew each week. Forget about missing an order and not getting your meals delivered and going hungry, or worse, reverting to old habits.

Ready to eat in three minutes or less.

Finally, if you are getting a delivery system, it means you don’t want to spend too much time in the kitchen. Some other delivery services make you cook their bundled ingredients, which can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes.

However, Diet-to-Go saves you time since it only takes two to three minutes to heat the meal. Once the microwave beeps, dinner is ready.

As simple and easy as that!

Real Customer Diet-to-Go Reviews

Currently, there are no customer Diet-to-Go reviews available on their official site.

The only reviews they have available on their website are reviews made by other well-known websites like Epicurious or VeryWell Fit. There are also some review channels on YouTube that can show what a Diet-to-Go delivery looks like.

While some of these professional reviews are helpful, it would be nice if they’d showcase what real customers think.

Alternatives To Diet To Go

Diet-to-Go seems like a good meal delivery system, but you might be concerned about the price or menu.

Next up in this Diet-to-Go review, we’ll go over three alternatives to this delivery system.

Nutrisystem

Nutrisystem is a meal delivery service that offers meal plans adjusted to your needs. When you download their app, they can tailor the meal plans to your goals and needs.

But, on average, women get a 1,200-calorie diet and men a 1-600 calorie diet.

One of the differences of Nutrisystem is that it is a four-week program that delivers six meals a day to keep your fullness levels high and avoid getting off track. Once you finish those four weeks, you can choose to get another subscription.

You can repeat the cycle as many times as you want or until you reach your goal weight.

Pros

  • Delivered ready-to-eat meals.
  • Free delivery at your door.
  • Saves time in the kitchen and can promote weight loss.
  • Has an app to track your food.
  • Customized meal plan (additional price).

Cons

  • Higher-priced service.
  • Might not be sustainable long term.
  • You still need to purchase fruits and vegetables.
  • Doesn’t teach you lifestyle habits.
  • Provides short-term results.

Read our Nutrisystem review here.

BistroMD

BistroMD is another subscription-based meal delivery service. You can get a standard meal plan to help you lose weight, or it can be adapted to specific needs like gluten-free or diabetic.

They offer six different meal plans: signature, menopause-friendly, keto flex, diabetes-friendly, heart-healthy, and gluten-free. You can purchase meals for five or seven days a week and choose if you want two meals (lunch and dinner) or three meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Pros

  • There are more reviews available online.
  • You can get feedback from a dietitian through email or their Facebook group.
  • Has a gluten-free option.

Cons

  • Higher priced service.
  • Customers report the meals are bland.
  • Limited options for vegetarians and vegans.
  • Meal plans might be too low in calories.

Trifecta Nutrition

Finally, Trifecta Nutrition is an organic meal delivery system. It offers meal plans to suit different eating patterns like paleo, keto, and vegetarian.

It focuses on providing high-quality ingredients, such as lean proteins, whole grains, and lots of vegetables.

Trifecta Nutrition offers the option for you to choose your meals and build your menu, or choose from the already-set menus. You can purchase a five or seven-day menu, with two or three meals per day.

Pros

  • Offers organic ingredients.
  • Vegan option available.
  • Can help promote weight loss.
  • Free shipping in the US.
  • A coach can guide you through the process.
  • Promotes long-lasting results.

Cons

  • Higher priced service.
  • In some plans, you cannot make adjustments.
  • You can only remove up to two ingredients for each meal.
  • Might not be sustainable over time.

Benefits of a Meal Delivery Service Like Diet-to-Go

diet to go meals benefits

Meal delivery systems, like Diet-to-Go, offer several benefits. Let’s see what some of those benefits might be.

Convenience

Grocery shopping and cooking take up hours of your time every week – hours you don’t have to spare. The convenient option used to be heading to the drive-thru, but healthy meal delivery takes even less effort.

Variety

Sometimes, we rely on the same foods week after week. After a while, we get tired of them and start reverting back to sodium and calorie-laden takeout just for “something different.”

Meal delivery systems offer you both nutrition and variety, so there’s less of a chance you’ll go off-plan.

Health

Want to be sure the diet you’re following is healthy? Ask a professional. These meal delivery systems have dietitians approve the menu. So, you know you are getting high-quality ingredients that fit your needs and promote good health.

Portion Control

For some people, portion control might be the biggest challenge. Eyeballing the portions can keep you from enjoying the desired results. However, meal delivery systems give you the exact portions you need to reach your goals.

Reduces Food Waste

How many containers of leftovers do you throw away every week? Do you buy produce with every intention of eating more salad, just to toss it a short while later?

Meal delivery systems like Diet-to-Go give you just what you need – nothing more, nothing less. And with up to 40% of the food supply ending up in the trash every year, that’s a beautiful thing.

Stress-Free

Losing weight or getting back on track with your health can really add to your daily stress. On top of all of your usual responsibilities, you have to worry exactly how many calories are on that plate, or obsessively check nutrition labels in the grocery aisles.

It can be enough to drive you mad at times. However, meal delivery systems are there to alleviate the stress, not add to it. Certifiably healthy choices, ready to eat. Simple.

Accessibility

You won’t find high-quality proteins and a diverse array of fruits and vegetables everywhere. If you do have access to them, it doesn’t mean you know how to prepare them.

Diet-to-Go brings you high-quality ingredients cooked by pros. It’s a better-quality diet that can lead to better quality of life.

Saves Money

Finally, while meal delivery systems might seem like an expensive option, keep in mind that you are reducing waste and getting already-cooked meals, saving time and energy.

Consider how much you already spend on the grocery store and eating out every week, and see how you can easily slash that by 75% or more with a service like Diet-to-Go.

Diet-to-Go Verdict

We’ve reached the end of this Diet-to-Go review.

Diet-to-Go seems like a good option for those who need some help planning their meals or don’t have enough time to go to the grocery store and cook healthy meals.

It can be the way to a healthier lifestyle since it shows you what sensible portions look like and which ingredients are healthy.

While it is a good option, there are some things you need to consider such as price, if they have a meal plan suitable for your needs, or if it fits your caloric intake.

Still, Diet-to-Go has been around for more than 30 years for a reason. It’s a good way for many people to eat well without having to worry about cooking or shopping.

If you are ready to make your first purchase, you can head over to Diet-to-Go to make your first order.
